I retain the right to showcase your completed avatar or commissioned asset in my portfolio and on social media platforms for promotional purposes. If you require the project to remain private, please explicitly state this before the commission begins.

Full clause ↓Ending the engagement
We settle completed work and logged hours. Any unused advance payment is refunded after completed work is accounted for.

Before you commission
Before you hire
VRChat commissions. Avatar and asset work, delivery, review and support.
If I’m creating a character for you to use, play with, stream, VTube, or anything like that — it’s yours. I don’t claim any rights or ownership over it, and you don’t need to credit me anywhere. The only thing I ask is that you don’t claim you made it yourself. And if you liked my work, I always appreciate it when people spread the word.
Commercial / resale useThis applies if you’re a creator hiring me to make assets that you plan to sell — either individually or as part of a bigger product (garments, avatar bases, etc.). In this case, commercial terms apply: projects must be quoted at $250 USD or more, and proper credit as the original creator is required for any public sale or redistribution. If you’re unsure whether this applies to your project, just ask.
I reserve the right to refuse or cancel any avatar or asset commission that involves characters appearing to be underage, regardless of their fictional lore or stated age. My personal judgment on this matter is final.
You receive a full refund if you cancel before work begins. If work has started, your refund will be prorated based on the work already completed.
If your avatar or asset commission is canceled, you do not receive unfinished files or partial work.
I use PayPal invoices. Please provide an email address where you would like to receive the invoice link. This does not need to be the email address associated with your PayPal account. You can pay through the link using PayPal or a credit or debit card.
Avatar & asset commissionsFor your avatar or related asset commission, payment is usually split in two — 50% before I start and 50% before delivery. If your project is larger, I can split the payment into 3 or 4 parts if needed.
Completed handoff & delayed paymentIf your project is completed and your payment remains outstanding for an extended period after formal notification (including several weeks or months), I may still deliver your final files once you settle the payment. However, I will consider your project closed, and no further support, revisions or scheduling accommodations are included. You can arrange additional post-delivery support as a separate paid service.
Let’s respect each other’s time throughout the process.
I will share progress on your avatar and completed milestones through screenshots or recorded videos from Blender and Unity. Please review these updates carefully and raise any concerns or requested changes before approving the work. I will proceed to the next stage once you confirm that it looks good or give me the go-ahead.
Approval checkpointsYour approval confirms the direction of the specific work shown in that update. Approved designs, animations, effects and other elements are treated as settled checkpoints. Further redesign of those elements is outside the original scope, so any changes you would like to make should be raised before approval.
Avatar testing & issue reportsYou are responsible for thoroughly testing your avatar in VRChat during actual use and reporting any bugs or other issues that need attention. Please check its controls, toggles, outfits, animations, effects and movement. When reporting a problem, explain what happens and how to reproduce it, and include screenshots or a video where possible.
Because my time is limited, I cannot carry out this full in-game testing process on your behalf. I rely on your testing and clear reports to identify issues that need fixing, which I will address within the agreed scope and applicable support terms.
Post-project supportYour post-project support covers bug fixes and limited design touch-ups within the agreed scope and applicable support terms. It does not include fundamental redesigns, substantial changes or open-ended rounds of adjustments to work you have already approved. If you would like changes beyond these limits, we must discuss and agree on them separately as additional work.
This process gives you clear opportunities to provide feedback while keeping expectations consistent and respecting both your time and mine.
Your delivery follows the avatar or asset scope we agree before work begins. Use the instructions provided with your files and the relevant client tutorials to open your project, install updates or upload your avatar.
Your delivery does not include Substance Painter project files (.spp).
If you need a Blender file, you can create one by importing the FBX from your delivered Unity project into Blender and saving it as a .blend file.
PC is the default platform for my VRChat commissions. If you would prefer a Quest-compatible avatar from the start, please specify this before work begins.
I develop one platform version at a time. Simultaneous PC and Quest development is not available, including by special request.
Quest conversionsYou can commission a Quest conversion as a separate, paid project only after your PC project is completed and tested.
The conversion focuses on making the existing avatar compatible with Quest. This primarily involves adapting or replacing shaders and materials, reducing texture resolution and memory usage, simplifying bone chains and PhysBone setups to stay within Quest’s hard limits, and removing unsupported systems and effects.
It does not include remeshing the main meshes or creating low-poly versions, and no specific VRChat performance rank is guaranteed.
Low-poly versions & performance targetsIf you want a dedicated low-poly version or an avatar designed to meet a particular VRChat performance rank, you must commission it as a separate project, with that goal agreed before work begins. You will need to accept limits on your avatar’s appearance and complexity, including its outfits, hair, physics and effects. Those constraints need to guide the design from the start.
Starting with QuestYou can commission a Quest-compatible avatar from the outset. Choosing Quest does not automatically change the price; the quote depends on the agreed scope of work.
You can also use that avatar on PC, with the same specifications and limitations as the Quest version: fewer bones with physics, lower-resolution textures, simpler materials and no special particle effects. Using it on PC does not add those features back, and your commission does not include a separate, enhanced PC version.
Availability: My working hours and rest days vary, so replies and updates do not follow a fixed daily schedule.
Project updates: I will share screenshots or recorded videos from Blender and Unity when there is meaningful progress or a completed milestone for you to review, following the approval and revision process. I don’t offer live streams or voice/video calls.
Between updates: Some stages, particularly technical work, require sustained focus and may not produce anything useful to show until a milestone is ready for review. Unless I notify you of a problem or delay, you can assume that work on your avatar commission is continuing between updates.
I will message you directly with important updates, including any problem or delay affecting your project, regardless of your online status. Please feel free to respond at your convenience.
All communication is subject to the communication and conduct requirements below.
Professional courtesy, respectful conduct and clear communication are requirements for working together. You must be able to explain what you want and how it should look or function in clear, understandable terms, respond to relevant questions and clarify your feedback when needed. A constructive exchange is essential throughout your avatar commission and any post-project support.
You are also expected to make a reasonable effort to watch the tutorials I provide and follow the steps as closely as possible before requesting an individual walkthrough. These guides are part of your support and help us use our time effectively. If a step is unclear or does not work as shown, questions are welcome; please explain where you are stuck and what happened so I can help with that specific issue.
If you do not meet these requirements at any point during an active project, I will cancel your commission. You will receive a full refund if work has not begun; otherwise, your refund will be reduced to account for the work already completed, in line with the refund policy.
If you do not meet these requirements during post-project support, I will end your support immediately.
Game Dev engagements. Hiring me for a defined role, hourly development and ongoing collaboration.
I retain the right to show completed work I create for your game in my portfolio and on social media. If your project is confidential, unreleased or subject to a non-disclosure agreement, tell me before the engagement begins so we can agree on what may be shown and when.
When you hire me to create assets or other agreed contributions for your game, credit my work under the name AhabDev, alongside the other contributors to your project.
If you need specific usage, ownership or licensing arrangements, discuss them with me before work begins so they can be included in our agreement.
I reserve the right to refuse or end an engagement that involves characters appearing to be underage, regardless of their fictional lore or stated age. My personal judgment on this matter is final.
If you end the engagement, we settle the account based on the agreed work and hours already completed. Payment for that work remains due.
If you have paid in advance, any refund is calculated after deducting completed work. You receive a full refund of an advance if none of the work it covers has begun.
Ending the engagement does not include completing unfinished tasks. We review the current state of the work and any agreed handoff when closing the engagement.
I use PayPal invoices. Please provide an email address where you would like to receive the invoice link. This does not need to be the email address associated with your PayPal account. You can pay through the link using PayPal or a credit or debit card.
Rate, time tracking & invoicesYou hire me at an hourly rate agreed before work begins. I estimate tasks and log the time I spend on them, so you can see what you are paying for. You pay for hours actually worked, with invoices sent weekly, biweekly or monthly according to our agreement.
I do not accept revenue sharing or payment deferred until your game earns money. Payment for development work follows our agreed invoice schedule.
Delayed final paymentIf a completed assignment remains unpaid for an extended period after formal notification, I may still provide the final handoff once you settle the payment. I will consider the assignment closed, and further support, revisions or scheduling accommodations are not included. You can arrange additional work as a separate paid service.
We agree on the requirements and priorities of each assignment. I share progress through written updates, screenshots or recorded demonstrations as appropriate. Review the work, explain any concerns clearly and confirm the direction so I can continue.
Your approval establishes a checkpoint for the work reviewed. If you later change an approved design or requirement, we plan that change as an additional task and account for the time it needs.
Testing & issue reportsWe agree on the testing I will handle within my assigned role. You or your team are responsible for testing the wider game and checking the work in your actual project and target builds. Report issues with steps to reproduce them, the relevant project or build version, and screenshots, video or logs where useful.
Bug fixes and refinements are handled within the agreed scope and support arrangements. Broader redesigns, new features and additional testing need to be planned as part of the workload.
After the engagementAny continuing support, maintenance or further development after the agreed work ends must be discussed and arranged separately. Please raise outstanding issues during the review and handoff process so we can agree on what still needs attention.
Before work begins, provide the project files, references and access needed for my assigned role. We agree on the engine version, working location and how changes will be delivered, whether through your project repository or a separate handoff.
The source code, assets, working files and handoff notes needed for your assignment should be included in the agreed scope. Keep the project information I need available and let me know about changes that could affect the work.
3D asset filesSubstance Painter project files (.spp) are not included. If you need a Blender file from a delivered FBX, you can import that FBX into Blender and save it as a .blend file.
Send your Game Design Document, or a clear description of your game, its current state and the help you need. References, concept art and an outline of your planned features are useful if you do not have a formal document yet. Writing a GDD can also be commissioned as a separate paid task.
Agreeing on my roleWe define the responsibilities, priorities and expected results before work begins. Unity is my main engine, with broad coverage across 3D art, animation, technical art, programming, rigging and integration. My Unreal work has a more focused scope in 3D art and animation. I will be clear about what I can take on for your project.
Technical requirementsSpecify the engine version, target platforms, hardware or performance requirements and relevant dependencies at the start. If those requirements change, we review their effect on the workload and schedule before adding the extra work. See long-term and contract work for more detail about the hiring process.
Scheduling: My working hours and rest days vary. We agree on a weekly hour commitment for your engagement alongside my other work, and I will let you know if my availability changes.
Progress updates: I share written updates, screenshots or recorded demonstrations when there is meaningful progress to review. Some technical tasks need sustained focus and may not yet have a useful visual result. Unless I notify you of a problem or delay, you can expect work to continue within our agreed schedule between messages.
I will tell you about important issues or blockers affecting your project, regardless of your online status. Communication is asynchronous; I do not offer live streams or voice/video calls. Please respond to project questions when you can, and let me know about changes in your team’s priorities.
All communication follows the conduct and collaboration requirements below.
Professional courtesy, respectful conduct and clear communication are requirements for working together. Explain the results you need, answer relevant questions and give feedback that is clear enough to act on. If several people are involved, keep your team’s instructions and priorities consistent.
You are expected to make a reasonable effort to read the setup instructions, handoff notes and relevant guides I provide, and follow their steps before requesting an individual walkthrough. Questions are welcome when something is unclear; identify the step or issue so I can help with the specific problem.
If you do not meet these requirements during the engagement, I will end the engagement. We settle completed work and any unused advance payment according to the cancellation terms.
If these requirements are not met during support after the engagement, I will end that support immediately.
